The Arc North Florida Foundation, Inc.

A Brief History

The Arc North Florida Foundation, Inc. is a nonprofit 501©3 foundation, which was founded principally by the same community members who established The Arc North Florida, Inc. (previously Tri-County ARC). Concerned family and citizens originally created The Arc North Florida Foundation, Inc. in order to provide financial stability for The Arc North Florida, Inc., which provides essential services and programs to persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Board of this foundation strives to include community members who are determined in making a difference in the lives of persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities who reside in the surrounding area. The formation of The Arc North Florida Foundation, Inc. was necessary due to the instability of state and governmental funding, and the unreliability of the budgets of such programs.

Originally named The Association for Retarded Citizens Foundation of North Florida, Inc., amendments were applied in 2013 to rename the incorporation to The Arc North Florida Foundation, Inc. to continue its mission in advocacy and assistance for persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Arc North Florida Foundation, Inc. is committed to enhancing the lives of persons with disabilities and achieves such by cultivating major gifts and bequests for continuing investment in support of the services and programs provided by The Arc North Florida, Inc. The Foundations ability to make a difference in the community and in the lives of persons with disabilities relies on the generosity of its neighbors and fellow community members.

Investment Policy

The purpose of The Arc North Florida Foundation, Inc. is to seek out contributions from all available sources and to invest these contributions and grow them for the benefit of The Arc North Florida, Inc. It is intended that income from the foundation's investments will be used for grants to The Arc North Florida, Inc. to fund projects, programs, or to stabilize funding when other funding is limited. Investment funds come from restricted or endowed contributions to the foundation and are managed as one pool of funds.

The primary investment objective of the Investments Committee is the protection and preservation of the assets, while the secondary objective is long-term growth. As a result, the Investment Manager(s) all seek the highest possible return consistent with a prudent regard for legal considerations, fiduciary responsibility, and safety of capital.

Because of donor restrictions, marketability, liquidity, size or value, certain assets received or held by The Arc North Florida Foundation, Inc. cannot be feasibly or economically pooled for investment purposes. Each such asset shall be reviewed individually by the Committee and the Board of Directors. The Board will determine the appropriate course of action, disposition or retention to maintain a financially sound foundation.
