Self-Advocacy Education

Self-Advocacy Education

Lori and Burlea, along with other Florida adults with disabilities, attended a quarterly conference hosted by The Arc of Florida at Rish Recreational Park. This 100 acres of beautiful beach property is owned and operated by APD. This park is a fabulous getaway that is accessible for people with disabilities. Special ramps provide access to the beautiful beach on the Gulf of Mexico. Newly renovated boardwalks connect all the cabins to the beach, event hall, and pool. Even the Olympic-size swimming pool is wheelchair accessible.

Lori and Burlea enjoyed the sandy beach and the group cabins. They also attended several conference sessions that focused on self-advocacy, home service choices and the chance for these individuals to share their ideas and views on how they would like to live their lives. Other group and social activities included a film festival, evening dance, and meals with friends.
